Heel spurs and the right shoes

Nothing is more annoying than having bought a nice pair of shoes and soon developing heel spurs, in other words; pain in the heel due to the shoes. Do you recognize this? A heel spur and the right shoes have a big connection. Then read on and who knows, you might find the right solution that works for you! But what exactly is heel spurs, what are the symptoms, causes, consequences and more importantly: what is the solution?

Heel spurs and the right shoes

Heel spur is a calcification of the tendon plate on the heel bone that sometimes causes inflammation under the heel. This calcification looks a bit like spurs used while riding, hence the name heel spur. The calcification of the heel bone does not necessarily cause any complaints, but is often accompanied by a painful inflammation of the tendon that runs along the bottom of the foot and connects the heel bone to the ball of the foot. A heel spur and the right shoes can therefore make a good team. It is important that you purchase the right shoes.

Some of the most important symptoms are pain under the heel when standing or walking for a long time, initial pain when getting up from bed, calcium deposits in the tendon plate, stiff feeling in the tendon plate under the foot and heel pain when driving. Do you recognize any of these symptoms? Then there is a good chance that you too suffer from heel spurs. Heel spurs are something that is very painful and that you want to avoid. More than 10% of people indicate that they have suffered from heel spurs at some point in their lives. The average age range is between 40 and 60 years old. There are several causes.

What are the causes of a heel spur and the right shoes?

Heel spurs are caused by irritation of the attachment of the plantar tendon. Overload of the heel or foot tendons is often the cause. The most common causes for overload of the heel or feet are sports (particularly running), stiff calf muscles or wearing a bad shoe. You get pain when walking, especially when standing up, and pain under the heel.

What is the right treatment?

Rest assured, heel spurs are fortunately easy to treat. Pain in the feet, heel, toes, tendons and when walking can be a thing of the past with the right treatment. If you have not been suffering from heel spurs for a long time, self-help can often be effective and reduce foot complaints. For example, consider resting, doing good stretching exercises, wearing good shoes and possibly using insoles. If the pain and foot complaints have not yet gone away, you could, for example, consult a doctor or therapist to resolve or reduce the pain in the heel. The position of the foot is often assessed and they recommend exercises or arch supports.

Which product can help with heel spurs?

As indicated earlier, heel spurs can sometimes be resolved through self-help. By wearing good shoes with the right support you can reduce pain in the heel and correct the tendon muscle. Fortunately, wearing good shoes can also reduce pain. Heel spurs are located under the foot, which makes wearing the right shoe very important. Shoes that don't provide enough support or don't fit properly will only cause more pain. The perfect shoes with great comfort are the Blundstone boots.
